Coaching
Today was the first practice of the Eagles, my son's U6 soccer team. I am the coach, and have been the coach for two previous sessions. Coaching is a great art. The rewards are huge and endless for the patient ones. I was able to keep the same boys on the team as we moved from the Plymouth league to the Canton League. We are adding two new boys to the team as well. The Canton League has much to offer for the players and coaches in terms of equipment and the pitch. For the coaches the Canton league also offers many training clinics to help provide for a better set of volunteer coaches. So, Wylie, how did the guys do in their first game in the Canton League?
Game 1 was a huge success. The boys did wonderfully and lived up to true Eagle tradition in scoring and playing as a team. Our line up was a 1-1-2, which puts emphasis on scoring.
Could you please explain 1-1-2?
Certainly, it is a way of describing how the players are lined up on the field. It does not include the goalie and starts with the defense moving out to the forwards. So, with a 1-1-2 line up I had 1 player as a defense, 1 as a midfielder, and 2 as forwards. At age U6 there are no goalies and we play with 4 players per team on the pitch at a time.
